Help with transitioning a baby out of sleeping swaddled
Posted by Kimberly Bepler on Fri, March 13th 2009 in Healthy Sleep ()
I have a question regarding swaddling. My son is just over 13 weeks old, and we are working on some nap/sleep stuff… We don’t swaddle him for naps (just started that, actually, and kind of let him cry it out), but we have ALWAYS swaddled him (double swaddle in receiving blankets) for night – it’s kind of been one of his main signals that it’s time for night sleep. We would like to transition him out of that nighttime swaddle, but don’t really know what to do. We went cold turkey last night and put him in PJ’s and a sleep sack instead, but that ended up being a nightmare, and so I ended up having to go in and nurse him because he was SO out of sorts, and then I just swaddled him the usual way and put him back down. What should we do to transition out of a swaddle?

Does my 13-week old baby still need a night feeding?
Posted by Kimberly Bepler on Fri, March 13th 2009 in Breastfeeding ()
Hi, I have a couple questions… I have been talking with a sleep coach who says that my 13-week old (approx 13 pound) son does not really NEED the middle of the night feeding (in terms of caloric intake).
First question: Is this true? He normally eats that time and 5 other times during the day (approx every 3 hours). And, if that IS true, then #1, what is the best way to transition him off of this feeding (and therefore finally get a straight night’s sleep!)
Second question: How will this affect my milk supply and what can I do to keep it up? I should mention that he is exclusively breast fed, and when he takes the middle of the night feeding, he seems to eat a full “meal”, but that has been slowing down just slightly lately.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
