Healing from diastasis recti

Prenatal and Postpartum Yoga Educator and mama of two, Camille Mülchi recommends two resources for postpartum recovery from diastasis recti.
An all-too-common experience for mamas (myself included) is having diastasis recti, or separation of the abdominal muscles. This often occurs during pregnancy, but is most noticeable after birth. The resulting weakened core, combined with all the crazy ergonomics of caring for a newborn, can wreak havoc on a new mama’s body. I recommend a variety of strategies, including some core strengthening work with an expert who deals with postpartum issues.
Wendy Foster of Mamalates offers classes and private pilates sessions for pregnant and postpartum women. She has regular success in helping women repair their core after birth, including healing from diastasis recti.
I send mamas with more serious issues to physical therapist Lisa Friedman. She has great clinical skills in this and many other areas, including pelvic floor and other women’s health issues. She was inordinately helpful to me personally when I was postpartum with my daughter last winter, and I have since referred a number of students (and friends) to her—all with equally positive results.
