Sometimes a mama needs a comforting meal

Jennifer Fuentes knows what it feels like to be nourished by friends and family with meals. Now she has found a great on-line calendar for organizing meal trains!
When my first child was born in 2002, our new little family of three had such a lovely baby moon. My mother was in town for several days, quietly tidying and doing laundry while we all snuggled and stared at one another in our family bed. Shortly after my mother returned home to Nevada, some friends stopped by to catch a quick peek at baby Mila. And they came bearing a gift, in the form of frozen lasagna. They didn’t think it was much, just grabbed it at a grocery store en route to our house. But that meal we could tuck a way for another day felt immensely good to receive.
There is something so pampering about being fed by people who care about you.
Before our second child was born, I knew what I would need far more than cute onesies. My fabulous friends who showered me with love at a mama blessing also organized a meal train for us. We were so thankful to receive four weeks of meals the winter Gael was born, and mournful when it ended.
I have since organized many a food train for friends, whether it be after the birth of a baby, or during a time of great stress. My most recent was last week and I had just found out about Meal Baby. It is different than the other free on-line calendars I have used, because its focus is on feeding folks. It was wonderfully simple to use, and sent me notes as people signed up for days. Meal Baby even has a section for favorite foods and foods folks aren’t able to eat.
So, the next time you make soup, double up that batch, freeze half of it to bestow upon someone in the near future. And when you hear that a friend is in need, you can pop on over to Meal Baby and give them the gift that keeps on giving.
